LOPEZ ISLAND FARM
Lopez Island Farm is blessed with a climate that is perfect for raising grass-fed livestock. Even in the middle of winter, some days are warm enough for the grass to grow. Our sheep are on pasture all year and lambing is timed to take advantage of the spring flush of grass. The breeds we have selected were developed to finish on grass and are lean with a delicate flavor. Our pasture-raised pigs live outside where they can forage and root to their hearts' content. In addition to the health and nutritional benefits from pasture grazing, they just enjoy digging, and happy pigs are healthy pigs. All our lamb and pork is produced without the need for antibiotics or hormones. Our meats are available in our farm store, at the Lopez Farmers Market, Proctors Farm Market in Tacoma and by special arrangement.

SWEET GRASS FARM
At Sweet Grass Farm we raise 100% Sweet Grass-fed Waygu ("Kobe") Beef.
Since
the 2nd century, this breed has been the source of that clean-tasting, rich
beef for which Japan is famous. These gentle cattle were recognized
for their outstanding meat qualities and bred exclusively for those traits
over the ages. A small number of genetic lines were brought to the U.S. in
the 1980’s and 90’s. Japan has since declared the cattle a national treasure
and ceased all exports. The principals of Management Intensive Grazing
(MIG, also called rotational grazing) are at the core of our farm practices.
We use these beautiful large herbivores to manage our grazing land. The
cattle harvest the crop, increase the fertility of the land, improve the
variety and quality of the grass community and are the economic engine that
makes it possible. Our management systems enable us to rotate the cattle to
a new pasture every couple days. We are pleased to serve customers
from the Canadian border to central Oregon. We invite your visit to
our farm--please call ahead to make arrangements.
