We bring you quality, affordable meat from grass fed, healthy stock raised on small family farms located on the islands in Puget Sound and the nearby mainland river valleys of northwest Washington State. We are dedicated to passing on the benefits of meat produced locally from humanely raised and processed livestock to our neighbors in this region.
IGFC started as an effort to develop access to markets for producers in the San Juan Islands. Also, we wanted to preserve an island way of life as well as the historic island farmlands. Real estate development was eating up farms; and those trying to make a living were finding themselves competing with corporate farms and processors while struggling to overcome the added costs of operating in the islands.
The cooperative is developing a local northwest niche market for all-natural meat from grass fed animals that have been raised without the use of growth hormones, antibiotics or feed additives.
Our membership now consists of 44 small producers of which 33 are located on the islands and 14 in the fertile Skagit, Samish and Nooksack river valleys.
